Video Hardware/Software Responses

1. How was your experience with the Olympus digital camera? How did it compare with other still or video cameras you have previously used? Were you able to successfully implement your Image Capturing Strategies using the features of this camera? In an ideal world, how would your still/video camera of choice function?

My experience with the Olympus digital camera was great. I really liked it, and it took the best type of pictures that I cannot do with my current camera. The camera allowed me to take very clear pictures, with very little editing with the lighting or focus or any of the other features. I really felt I was able to use the camera to benefit my image capturing strategy. The zoom feature on the camera worked a lot better with the video clips then the actual still images. That was the only thing that I had to learn from the camera, other than that everything was fine. I really don’t have a lot of requirements for a camera of my choice would function. The only reason I say this is because I have little experience with cameras so far as an artist, but I know down the road I will learn more about cameras and what makes a good camera worth using.

2. Discuss your choice of video-editing software and describe your history with this software. If you used this software for the first time, explain why you chose this particular application and how you think it helped you to accomplish your creative goals (or proved detrimental). Will you use this software again for future projects?

My choice of editing software included iMovie ’08 and Quicktime (which was used just as my export video choice). I really enjoyed using iMovie because it seemed to do all the kinds of editing and sound work for my video. This was the first time I ever used iMovie, but I seem to understand and be able to find what I need in the software very easily. The only thing I ever had problems with is the effect on still clips, for example the Ken burns effect, and how to change that out. The reason I used this software was mostly because it came with the computer. I didn’t want to go and look and download another video software, so I thought I would take advantage with what came with the computer. I will probably use this software again for my own personal use, or again for classroom projects, but when it comes to bigger projects I might find something else. This will all depend on what I will be composing. I am really happy though that I got to start my experimental videos with the iMovie software.
